I was born on the outskirts of London and have always lived, studied and worked either in or within half an hour's reach of the capital. I love cities - especially London and Paris. My first novel, Zade, is set in Paris and was on the 2006 long list of twelve for the Anglo-French Prince Maurice Prize.

My short fiction has appeared in a wide range of publications both in the UK and US. In 2003 I was shortlisted for an Asham Award for my short story 'Feathers'.

I have also published children's stories, poetry, and a number of reviews and articles on twenieth-century avant-garde fiction.

My most recent novel, Perfectly Fine ...  (more 'mainstream' than Zade) is being represented by Carole Blake at the Blake Friedman Agency.

I am currently working on a novel told in the alternating voices of mother and daughter, set in London and Paris.

As well as writing, I work part-time as a freelance editor and arts' project co-ordinator with my partner, the writer Malcolm Burgess.
